Home Theater

Designing a satisfying home theater experience involves much more than selecting high-quality audio/visual equipment. The sum total of the environment - acoustics, aesthetics, ergonomics, layout, lighting, spaciousness, comfort - has a significant impact on the listening and viewing experience.

Even the finest equipment will sound mediocre at best in a poorly designed environment. That's why choosing the right design team early in the planning process is so important. With acoustical, architectural, design and project management capabilities, RBDG can provide a custom design that optimizes the acoustical as well as the aesthetic experience of home theater, whether the project is the renovation of an existing residence or new construction.

RBDG does not take a textbook approach to home theater design. Each space is unique, so we believe its design should be customized to the client's aesthetic preferences and the intended use of the space, and sensitive to the design of the remainder of the residence. The result is audio and video presentation of the highest quality within an architecturally inviting space.

The RBDG team works with local builders and architects to program and design the appropriate acoustical and structural foundations to ensure the project's sonic quality. Finishes, furniture and fixtures are selected that appeal to the client's taste and integrate with the acoustical design of the space. Working in collaboration with other professional service providers (electronic installers, audio/video dealers, etc.), RBDG incorporates the latest technology available in the design of our clients' private listening environments.

RBDG's extensive theater design experience began with developing THX criteria and solutions for United Artists, including eight of the first ten THX theaters in the country. In all, we have designed hundreds of THX theaters for clients such as United Artists, General Cinema, AMC and Cinemark. We also have developed listening labs and theaters for several major manufacturers, including Shure, Lexicon and Sony, and demonstration theaters for Texas Instruments' DLP chip technology.
